Jul 20, 2020 · If I were to get another 3 weight it would either be the glass FS6634 or the FS7235. The FS7235 is a 5 piece rod and packs down to 18" if you plan on doing some hiking. The shopping is half the fun. I have the GS844, my favorite dry fly rod, a 3 weight in that series would be in the running as well. One was a 16' which would handle a 3 hp outboard on an adaptor that clamped onto the gunwhales, the other was the 12' Gruman aluminum alloy and touted as the lightest canoe ever made. The total weight was either 22 or 23 pounds. The 16' never got used for any but large lake fishing after the short one was purchased.

A good caster should be able to cast 50' to 60' sitting in a float tube with a 9' 5 or 6 weight. But the reality, as Mojo mentioned, is that one rarely needs to make that cast over 40'.
