The Solo is rated to 5 HP and most guys seem to put a 6 HP on it. That extra weight may seem inconsequential on paper, but it really matters when you have to lift it up into the truck bed along with half of the boat. If you want that bigger engine, you might want to think about whether the Solo is really what you want.

I picked up the Salt Marsh Heron 18 this week and have a similar issue with the top of the 115 motor hitting the poling platform, even with the jackplate fully down. Seems to be able to tilt plenty enough though. Next time around I'll go with your suggestion.

As said, it was affordable and gets the job done. No complaints or issues so far and I do everything from poling for tailing reds to trolling passes/beaches. The biggest gains are in the lower hp motors of each class. In other words, they can get 20 more hp from a 40 but only 10 more hp from a 50.
