Windows handling of audio output is rubbish, but FFXIV actually found a way to make it worse. Audio device switching don't work ingame, but by enabling HDMI as default before launching anything it should work. Maybe check sound parameters ingame? Also, yes, update your GPU/HDMI drivers.

For some reason, FFXIV's sound behaves very strangely when it's launched using Arctis Chat as its audio device. Sound works fine in Discord, OR FFXIV. However when I try to use both at the same time, Discord (or windows 10) takes over the sound control (exclusive control) and I lose all FFXIV sound. Discord works, and I can use the microphone, just no OTHER sounds. Sometimes FFXIV's sound likes to cut out for no reason, forcing me to quit the client entirely and login again. This is of course because FFXIV doesn't use the Windows sound system like web browsers do, etc. I was just wondering if anyone else was having problems.
