I had a motorola mb8600 with unlimited data as an add-on, and I was having trouble getting more than like 800 down and 20 up. I switched to xb7 and get about 960/42 now and also save $5 a month. Most of the Comcast gateways in the past have been garbage but I'm really impressed with the xb7 when put into bridge mode.

It won't connect to the Comcast gateway device if it's in bridge mode. It's not a router, it's just an AP. It needs a router to connect to. I've been (happily) using my own Arris modems for years, but Comcast is strongarming their customers that want unlimited data by charging an extra $5/mo for owning their own gear versus owning the xFi modem. I've read in the past that this combo unit can be put into bridge mode to allow a router behind it (like Nest WiFi) and then the Xfinity ...I do get these speeds using the XB7 in router mode. Also get these speeds shortly after enabling bridge mode, but overnight something happens and download speeds will only max out at around 150-180Mbps. Click the little network symbol on the top of the screen. Select the Ethernet adapter. Default sets it to DHCP, use the drop down and select "Off". Mac likes to pick Ethernet as a default device if given the choice between that or WiFi. If it picks the Xfinity WiFi in gateway mode instead of your Nest, you can "forget" the Xfinity WiFi connection.

As a backup, you may try enabling Bridge Mode, connecting your personal router to the modem, and then connecting the Xfinity Home touchscreen to your router with an ethernet cable.
