Unscrew the nut and pull the cable and nut assembly out of the carb. Sometimes they're stuck. If that's the case, WD40 will sometimes loosen them. I removed the gearshift lever and housing it is attached to and disassembled it. The grease was very used up so i cleaned it out and regreased it. Get a multimeter, set it to test continuity, and ground one probe. Put the other one on the neutral wire, and when the machine is in neutral it should have continuity with the engine block.
