It really depends on the whole engine combo (compression, head material, cam specs etc) and how efficient it is.... I would NOT go over 36* though... I run my 496 at 32-33* locked out, with a 4.5* of vac advance... So 32* all the time, 36-37* at cruise with vacuum. No pinging with 10.0-1 compression, iron heads, 93 octane.
