Jan 15, 2014 · One guy (who claims to be a mechanic) gave a long list of stuff he has to do to maintain the shaft drive on his Vulcan 750. I have owned several shaft drive bikes, and never had to do more than just change the oil and lube splines at the final drive. I looked at the service manual, and all it shows is change the final drive oil every 24,000 miles. So I went to the parts store and bought the motorcycle grade of oil by Lucas Syntheticwhich was about a $1 - $1.50 less than hondas line of regular grade. I only have 3100 miles on my 1800 but will change about 5000 miles after this change. And was recommended to use 5w40.I found two filters from Fram that would fit our bike PH6607 and PH6017A. There have a closer spec than the same parts for an aircooled engine. I fail to see their point though. 10/30 oil is the viscosity rating warm and cold. Peace of mind.
