Probably the plastic valve covers, they were upgraded to metal on the later versions of the engine. Expensive but worth it. Get some brake clean and scrub the engine down and then run it and see if it is wet under the covers. You can find a lot more leaks with a clean engine. 1994 JD 445 with 54" & 48" MMM.

Hydraulic fluid change on X730. Well, today was install new fuel filter and change hydraulic fluid day. All went well and I even found a unique tool ( C ring spreader plyers) in my inventory to spread/remove the plastic clips on the FF lines. Drain from beside the drawbar and also from the mfwd clutch housing. EDIT: Under a large hex plug up high, just above where the filter screws in.
Someone would have sure noticed this leak and I would not think it would be pulling properly or the hydraulics working much. If this has been out a long time and water may have got in there you could have problems. Change the fluid and replace the tube assembly.
