The Smith and Wesson M&P Shield is a handful. It has a fair amount of recoil and the same fairly small gun. Whereas the GLOCK 19 is a much larger gun and it can soak up that recoil a little more. Keep in mind the glock 19 is one of the most recommended pistol for concealed carry and the m&p compact is the same size. And as a bigger guy myself (6'2 290ish) sometimes I'll even carry the 5" model. 2.0 Compact 4" is my EDC.

For my purposes, the S&W M&P9 m2.0 Compact 4" optic ready with the new trigger beats both the Shield Plus and the Subcompact. The Shield is too small for my hands. I recently replaced my S&W M&P9 M2.0 5" with the 4" Spec Series as my EDC. The 4" fits my 5" holsters and accepts the 17 round S&W M&P9 magazines and the ETS larger magazines.
