Is the northstar v8 a good engine.

178 posts · Joined 2013. #1 · Aug 10, 2021. For a very long time I have been interested in the old northstar v8. I think the engine has a lot of potential and would be great for the road racing I do. Years ago, there was a company called Cadillac Hotrod Fabricators that had all kinds of things for this engine, but they are long gone.But the engine started burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles and this went to a quart every 500 miles at about 110,000 miles on the car. The Northstar is a POS IMO, my 84 Corvette with the the 5.7 liter pushrod burns no oil and runs like a clock at over 90,000 miles. Stay far away from a used car with the Northstar engine.The Northstar engine comprises a cast aluminum 90° V8 block, with a 102 mm bore spacing split into unitary upper and lower halves. May 18, 2008 · Nothing is perfect, and the Northstar performs beautifully overall, but isn't exactly a standout in terms of durability compared to any other engine. So it's hard to call anything "as good as xxx..." in terms of an engine, but the 3.6L is a great engine and is taking over where a new Cadillac started V8 was to begin, so all will get used to it.
