It is correct though that these 2 years of HD's did offer the 8.1, it was either that or you got the 6.5TD. Only 2 engine options those years, no more 7.4.It's worth the swap if you take advantage of the deep 1st gear and your budget can handle the controller or tuning needed to run the 6 speeds. I have a 6L90 behind an LMM in a square. Pulls great. Brother in law has a 6L80 behind a 5.3 in a square, he's swapping from 3.08's to 3.42 for a little more pep off the line.

The 5.3 are more plentiful and you can still get alot of power by a simple cam swap. Ls1truck.com and lt1swap.com is where I got my info from. Dirty Dingo slider mounts for about $100 is the way to go. LS motor and any trans will bolt together and drop in with no welding.
