It’s obviously a 2009-2014 f150. Close enough. OP - agree with the broken wire being the cause. Slide the rubber boots in both door hinges to the side, unwrap the sticky felt, and inspect the wires going into the door/frame connector. On my 2013, if I slide of the rubber boot in either direction I can see or even feel a connector in there.
