This is after I told him when we installed it that they run hot and not to worry.

Just like an antenna built in 1950 currently supports ATSC 1.0, anything simply passing RF should pass 3.0. It's the actual TUNER (in this case the Hopper) that would need to be replaced to bring in 3.0. Locals OTA are free. I have been trying to get Dish to sort out the problems with the OTA guide and even that has not been resolved. Right now only a couple 3.0 OTA tuners are available and I think they run $200-$300. 3.0 is still too early to make any dent. Even if it does, it will be years. IF necessary try to plug the dongle in another usb port ,maybe the front one . It should recognize it on one of the ports.Once it's connected, you scan for OTA channels through the menu and they'll get added to your guide. It can record those channels as another tuner (in addition to the ones the Hopper has). The only limitation I can think of is that if you add any OTA channels that Dish doesn't already carry, the guide information won't populate.
