Tmodloader saves and retrieves your modded worlds/characters from a separate location than the main game. So when you updated Terraria, it got rid of Tmodloader. Since updating for rid of Tmodloader, it isn't there to retrieve your modded worlds/characters anymore. EDIT: Install Tmodloader on steam and then launch it.

I have done this before. With our old computer, we put an SSD drive in. I saved the folder in a Usb stick and put it in the new drive (I didn't know how it would work) and everything was there.
