The base itself is located close to the southwest edge of the map, deep in the wilderness, very far from everything. Just glancing at the map makes it very much stand out from its surrounding wilderness.

And even then there isn’t that much of that. There are many zombies dressed in military uniforms, but in the base there is no area with weapons. So in my opinion the loot there is not worth the amount of zombies. I am relatively new to the game and my longest run yet was ruined by having a desire to explore that base.
