Duramax ticking noise.
I have a 2003 Duramax and I had that ticking problem when I bought it. I put in the diesel fuel supplement in the grey bottle according mixture on the bottles directions to raise cetane level and lube injector pump and injectors. in one treatment ticking was gone and real noticeable power improvement. worked real well!!
The noise is not audible at idle or deceleration, only upon acceleration or when cursing down the highway. It seems to be loudest when the engine is hot 90+. Just Bought the truck and have previously owned a couple doge cummins. It only seems to happen between 1,000 and 1500 rpm. My 16 LML made a similar noise sometimes, but this L5P seems to do it more. 2019 Chevy Duramax L5P Ticking. Engine has a pretty loud tick when I first start it up, sounds like it’s coming from the drivers side but it’s hard to determine. Pop-off pressures are (don't quote me on this) around 1300-1700lbs. for most diesel engines IIRC, so they can get a little noisy, especially when it's cold out.

The noise sounds like its from the passenger side so that makes me think those two are the culprit.I'm a diesel owner as well and have this ticking noise - constant, steady ticking when traveling at low speeds. I notice it when I'm at the coffee drive thru and I can hear it quite well as it bounces off the adjacent wall. I have service scheduled tomorrow and plan to have it addressed. I see a number of diesel owners in this thread.
When the engine is fired up cold it sounds perfect, but once it gets to about 140-150 the noise starts and seems to correlate to oil pressure, eg. once the rpm is above 1200 the majority of it goes away. Oct 11, 2015 · Weird ticking noise on 2015. It only happens while the truck is running and it's coming from the engine clearly herd from the wheel wells. It sounds like a hot exhaust cooling down and the crack/pop/ticks you get. Again it happens ONLY while running and the truck is not in a regen.

No its not hurting it. You can try & find another oil brand thatll maybe reduce the tick noise, or you just live with it. I use Rotella T in my LMM & Mobil Delvac Super in the LML. The tick is louder/more noticeable in the LML with Mobil Delvac Super. Both engine had been using Valvoline Premium Blue 15W-40, & the tick wasnt as noticeable.
